News from my little corner

Yes I know it has been quite a long time since I posted anything here. So I will give you just a little update of what's going on in my little corner :)

I started work as a new graduate nurse in the intensive care unit July 2. As of July 22 I officially became a Registered Nurse for the state of Virginia! That was one of the most exciting moments of my life. After I took the minimum of 75 questions I didn't know whether I had passed or failed. I just thought of all the questions I wasn't sure of and raced to my books to see if I got them right or not. The very next morning I called their very personal automated answering system to see if my license was registered for Virginia which would then in turn tell me that I had passed the exam......I waited...punched in my social security number...and then waited....then I heard the computer automated voice say....Linda E. Shin....License number...Blah..blah....I hung up and tears of joy and relief filled my eyes. I then proceeded to call them back to make sure I heard them right :)

Life in the intensive care unit has taught me much about myself and other people. I find myself entering into someone's life at a very critical period of their life. With certain patients who I think are on death's door, I am amazed at their resilience to push through and work their way out of the unit. :) It brings me the greatest fulfillment to see those patients recover and go home and to know that I had some part in helping them on their road back to recovery. Not only do I get to know the patients but also their families. I've been able to laugh with them and to cry with them especially when their loved one has passed away. I'm not the same person I used to be 4 months ago. After seeing a few of my patients take their last breath and to watch their heart beat it's last beat I've realized how fragile life really is. I'm thankful for the continuous opportunity to be able to touch someone's life each day and I hope that I will make the most of the time and people whose path's I cross.

My brother's ordination

This past weekend I was able to witness the truly sacred and awesome ordination of my brother and his good friend Nathan Stearman. As I saw the laying on on hands and as I listened to the challenge that was given them I realized what a solemn calling it was. I'm thankful for what God has been able to do through my brother and I pray that God will continue to work through him in a mighty way. I love you very much bro and I'm proud to call you my brother :)

"On June 15, 2007, I was ordained to the gospel ministry at the the Michigan Conference Campmeeting in Cedar Lake, Michigan. It is a miracle of grace that God chooses frail, mortal human beings to partner with God for the salvation of souls. What a solemn responsibility and awesome privilege! It's my prayer that I'll be ever faithful and true to His calling." David Shin

Pinning Ceremony

Well the long awaited day finally came. Last night my classmates and myself were pinned as nurses. It was a very special ceremony that reflected back on the journey we all took over the past 2 years. Our class has laughed, cried, celebrated, and loved together - We have become like family. As we recited the International Nurese Pledge we realized the seriousness of our work as nurses as we held the responsiblity of other peoples lives in our care. I want to thank all who have supported me through this journey for I couldn't have made it with you all.

As for the future, I have accepted a job at Culpeper Regional Hospital to work in their intensive care unit. I pray that God will use me to reach others in need.
