| Yes I know it has been quite a long time since I posted anything here. So I will give you just a little update of what's going on in my little corner :)
I started work as a new graduate nurse in the intensive care unit July 2. As of July 22 I officially became a Registered Nurse for the state of Virginia! That was one of the most exciting moments of my life. After I took the minimum of 75 questions I didn't know whether I had passed or failed. I just thought of all the questions I wasn't sure of and raced to my books to see if I got them right or not. The very next morning I called their very personal automated answering system to see if my license was registered for Virginia which would then in turn tell me that I had passed the exam......I waited...punched in my social security number...and then waited....then I heard the computer automated voice say....Linda E. Shin....License number...Blah..blah....I hung up and tears of joy and relief filled my eyes. I then proceeded to call them back to make sure I heard them right :)
Life in the intensive care unit has taught me much about myself and other people. I find myself entering into someone's life at a very critical period of their life. With certain patients who I think are on death's door, I am amazed at their resilience to push through and work their way out of the unit. :) It brings me the greatest fulfillment to see those patients recover and go home and to know that I had some part in helping them on their road back to recovery. Not only do I get to know the patients but also their families. I've been able to laugh with them and to cry with them especially when their loved one has passed away. I'm not the same person I used to be 4 months ago. After seeing a few of my patients take their last breath and to watch their heart beat it's last beat I've realized how fragile life really is. I'm thankful for the continuous opportunity to be able to touch someone's life each day and I hope that I will make the most of the time and people whose path's I cross.
